Schibsted acquires Hungarian classifieds sites

Schibsted Classified Media buys the Hungarian classifieds site Expressz.hu and takes full ownership of the car advertising site Használtautó.hu.

Schibsted Classified Media purchased expressz.hu, an online classified site with 400.000 users. The acquisition took place after the previous owner, TME Group decided to leave Hungary.

Expressz.hu has more than 1 million unique visitors every month; also it is an old player in the online classified advertising market. Most of the ads from Expressz.hu will be uploaded to Jófogás.

“We are pleased with the acquisition, which is an important step for us in reaching a stronger position and in long term, expanding our portfolio,” said Zoltán Peresztegi, SVP Schibsted Classified Media, who is responsible for users and products.

New car advertising site

Schibsted Classified Media bought 50% of the Használtautó in 2012 and has now acquired full ownership of what is the biggest car advertising portal in Hungary.

The expansion is a significant milestone for Schibsted in Hungary, which already plays an important role in the Hungarian online ad market as the owner of Jófogás.

Hasznaltauto.hu was founded in 1999, had 90.000 car ads, and more than 1 million unique users every month, it has been a determining element of the used car commerce, its business done grew significantly year by year.

Now the portal daily has 180,000 unique visitors serving consumers who would like to buy or sell cars, and it has been unrivalled for years in the Hungarian online advertising market.

At the same time Schibsted announced that Péter Novák will be the new director of hasznaltauto.hu, who is expected to boost the results of the biggest Hungarian car ad portal. Novák was previously manager of Kirowski and senior vice president of Origo Zrt.
