VG awarded for its digital journalism

For the second year in a row, VG swept the board at the European Digital Media Awards ceremony. The news that VG would receive two ‘internet Oscars’ came on Tuesday evening.

VG won awards in the categories Outstanding New Project and Best Reader Engagement for its food site godt.no and its chess coverage of the world championship, respectively.

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) presented the awards during the European Digital Media Awards ceremony in London on Tuesday.

This is the second year in a row that VG beats giants such as CNN to garner the most awards during this prestigious awards ceremony.

“I see it as confirmation that our digital product development is also in the lead internationally. And the span of the categories in which we are winning distinction also underlines the breadth of our digital offerings,” says VG’s editor-in-chief Torry Pedersen.

VG also received honorable mention for its Soria Moria project and for its tablet edition VG+.

Won ‘internet Oscar’

VG and VGTV won two awards at the Webby Awards, which, with more than 12,000 entries from more than 60 countries, is regarded as the Oscars of the internet.

**Along with the Oprah Winfrey Show, the PGA Tournament and the American Baseball League, the world-record-breaking project World’s Longest Interview on VGTV won awards for live TV events.

**VGTV’s innovative coverage of the Chess World Championship was honored for its advertising of the project.

However, it was at the European Digital Media Awards ceremony that VG really swept the board and became the most-winning media house.

The third Norwegian newspaper to receive honorable mention in London was Aftenposten, for its project ‘Norges rikdom’ [Norway’s Wealth], which dealt with how prosperity has changed Norwegians.
