Aftenposten’s printed and online versions are developing at a furious pace. The Aftenposten media house consists, among other things, of the morning newspaper; Aftenposten Morgen, the city afternoon newspaper; Aften, aftenposten.no and an online classified ads service, FINN.no.
All parts of this media house are undergoing exciting developments, based on Aftenposten’s sound brand name.
- Following extensive restructuring processes over the past few years, Aftenposten is now a modern media house that has managed in an excellent way to adapt to the new media habits which characterise our everyday lives. Aftenposten has managed to utilise its traditional market position to ensure a prominent position in the new media channels, with FINN.no as perhaps its most important new business area, says Birger Magnus, executive vice president of Schibsted.
Printed and online versions
At the beginning of 2005, Aftenposten Morgen changed from a broadsheet to a tabloid format. Its packaging has become lighter but its contents are still characterized by high quality news journalism. The change has been a great success. Aftenposten is Norway’s second largest newspaper and the largest one in the Oslo region. Aftenposten Aften is the evening newspaper for the Oslo area and is Norway’s fourth largest newspaper measured in circulation. Aften is the leading local news medium in Oslo and places great emphasis on publishing articles that are useful and provide inspiration to the population of the capital, with a daily guide to the city’s cultural activities and restaurants/entertainment. Every Friday, it also contains an entertainment insert called Puls, which is aimed at young readers.
Aftenposten's digital products includes a number of successful websites. Aftenposten.no is one of Norway’s largest online newspapers. Aftenposten has also captured a sound position in the segment relating to personal finances and consumer-related articles through the creation of forbruker.no. Travel is also a segment with strong focus.
E24 Næringsliv is Norway’s largest website for economics, finances and business. The website is a collaboration between Aftenposten (60%) and VG (40%), both of which are owned by Schibsted after the same ownership pattern of E24 Näringsliv in Sweden.
The Group
The Aftenposten Group has a solid position in the field of online classified advertising through its 62-per-cent majority shareholding in the FINN.no website, Norway’s largest online marketplace.
With its product portfolio, the Aftenposten media house covers an increasingly large share of the media day. The morning newspaper is read at breakfast time and on the way to work, aftenposten.no is looked at during the day, Aftenposten Aften is read in the afternoons, and the different online publications are visited in the evenings. In between, readers can quickly receive updated news on Aftenposten Mobil while going to lunch or coming home on the bus.
Ambition
Aftenposten’s main ambition is to provide high quality journalism via various publishing platforms and through an active interaction between its online and printed versions. It aims to strengthen its online position through a focus on text, graphics, sound and live pictures.
