Eesti Meedia is Estonia’s largest media company, and has operations in the newspaper, magazine, printing, Internet, radio and infrastructure areas.
Eesti Meedia owns Estonia’s largest broadsheet, Postimees (100%) and the tabloid newspaper SL Õhtuleht (50%) as well as several local newspapers. Competition for readers in the Estonian capital, Tallinn, has been fierce for a long time. Three newspapers (SL Õhtuleht, Postimees and Eesti Päevaleht) have had almost identical readership figures. Postimees is the largest of the three and its circulation is increasing. In the autumn of 2005, the newspaper also launched a Russian edition and this has been well received by the market.
Newspapers and magazines
Ajakirjade Kirjastus, a magazine company in which Eesti Meedia owns a 50-per-cent stake, publishes a number of magazines and has an approximately 56-per-cent share of the Estonian magazine market. This group owns Estonia’s five largest magazines.
Through Kroonpress, Eesti Meedia has a leading position in the Estonian market for printing newspapers and magazines. A modern facility at Tartu produces newspapers, magazines and other printed matter.
Schibsted Baltics
Schibsted Baltics owns a 92.5% share in Eesti Meedia and also owns the second largest commercial TV channel in Estonia, Kanal 2 (100%) and Lithuania’s largest magazine publisher, ZLG (66%), LT (51%) and the free daily newspaper 15 min (65%).
